This one-day course attempts to provide mental health and substance abuse providers with skills to provide HIV prevention interventions to individuals at risk for HIV and to provide culturally-competent services to individuals living with HIV. Focus will be on skills for risk assessment and risk reduction counseling, communication skills to address the needs of individuals living with HIV, and barriers to health behavior change. Health behavior change counseling skills will reflect the influence of Motivational Interviewing.
